Through international DNA research of skeletons from the same period, scientists now believe he had a dark skin color with dark hair. In 2024, therefore, this Swifterbant man was adapted to the latest scientific findings.
The skeleton of this man was excavated in the Flevopolder. He belonged to the Swifterbant culture, a population group consisting of hunter-gatherers, who also kept livestock and practiced small-scale arable farming. When he died, he was 25 to 45 years old. He was buried with a necklace of amber beads on his forehead.
His skull was scanned at the Red Cross Hospital Beverwijk by Dr. A. Kamphuis after which Dr. K.L. Vincken (ISI) further processed the digital data.
