For the exhibition, "Eye in Eye. The people behind mummy portraits." of the Allard Pierson Museum, a child mummy was transferred from the Heidelberg Center for Cultural Heritage of the University of Heidelberg. On this mummy, as on many other mummies from the Fayum area, a portrait was attached.
The mummy went through the CT scanner and then the digital skull data was 3D printed. A facial reconstruction was made on this copy of the skull.
This child's age and facial shape were different from that of the portrait on the mummy, suggesting that the skeleton in the mummy does not belong to the portrait depicted.
